Evaluation of the Battery Pool Concept using D2D cooperative communication system -- Verification using questionnaires --

(in English) In the power consumption of mobile terminals, WAN communication (e.g., 5G, LTE) accounts for a large proportion of the total power consumption, which is a major constraint on terminal uptime. To address this issue, we have proposed a framework to save power by building an autonomous distributed tethering network for a group of mobile terminals in a PAN area, and have evaluated the framework using actual terminals. In this framework, a terminal that has enough battery and good radio wave propagation characteristics (RSRP) from the base station acts as a proxy and accommodates other terminals by Wi-Fi tethering, thus saving power for the entire group. We call this the "battery pool concept" because this method is expected to extend the operating time of all terminals by averaging them over time, as if they were mutually helping each other by using a virtual shared battery. We call this the "battery pool concept." In this system, the proxy terminal accommodates an unspecified number of terminals, which may raise concerns about fairness and security. In this study, we examined the validity and issues of our battery tank concept through questionnaires of the subject experiments.
