Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper describes a new stand-alone hybrid power system for supplying power to a radio base station on a small island. The system is composed of a wind turbine generator and cylindrical photovoltaic modules. This system has PV modules mounted onto the wind generator pole to save installation space and cost. PV 1 is on the north side and 8 PV module arrays go around the pole.
The wind turbine specifications are based on the characteristics of 2kW output power equipment. The solar cell is made of polycrystalline silicon and module efficiency is 12.5 % and PV module rated output is 0.36 kW. To operate with maximum output, the each photovoltaic module array output is controlled by MPPT.
It is designed for installation on Yonaguni Island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Simulation clarified the power output of wind turbine and photovoltaic modules, as well as backup battery capacities for the small-scale radio base station equipment with 3 kW electric power consumption.
The generation energy of cylindrical photovoltaic modules arrangement is almost equalized throughout the daytime.
In Yonaguni Island, the annual hybrid power generation with cylindrical photovoltaic module is a 7-fold difference between August and November.
It was found that the base station equipment needs a wind generator output power of 8 kW, a photovoltaic output power of 7.4 kW and 177 kWh storage batteries for a system operation rate of 100 %. The power generation of cylindrical photovoltaic modules is low, compared wind power generation.
