High-Precision Motion Estimation using Wavelet's Conservation Property of Position Information

(in English) The conventional Band-by-band Motion Estimation has three problems: "Complexity of ODWT", "Blocksize in high band" and "Large Motion". In this paper, we propose two schemes which can solve the problems simultaneously. One scheme differs from the conventional one in the use of Blocksize 2x2, and being performed in DWT domain is the real advantage. The other scheme has two steps: first, motion estimation only in LL band is performed, and, second, in the other bands by translating searching center point by the LL band motion vector. The implementation results show that our schemes have PSNR improvement of above about 6.0 to 7.0 dB to the conventional one, especially to large motion movies.
