Proposal and Evaluation of Multiple Path Routing for Reducing Delay Jitter

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Delay jitter and packet loss cause QoS degradation in real-time multimedia communication applications.
Previous studies have reported that sending redundant packets through multiple paths can reduce packet
loss. However, these studies did not focus on delay jitter when establishing multiple paths. We propose a multiple-
path routing method for reducing delay jitter. Our algorithm outputs a set of paths that satisfy a pre-specified
delay constraint, and the paths in the set have a minimum of shared nodes and delay difference. Using computer
simulations in which redundant packets were sent through the sets of paths, we demonstrated that our method can
reduce delay jitter more effectively than conventional methods.
