TCP compatibility properties of HighSpeed TCP

(in English) It is reported that TCP does not perform well in high-speed and long-distance networks. This problem led to the proposal of HighSpeed TCP (HS-TCP). HS-TCP is designed to achieve a steady-state throughput of 10 Gbps with a packet loss rate of $10^{-7}$ when the packet size is 1500 bytes and the round trip time is 100 ms. However, HS-TCP has a problem regarding TCP compatibility. When HS-TCP is used in environments where standard TCP performs well, it is expected that HS-TCP achieves approximately the same throughput as standard TCP. To support this, HS-TCP is designed to use the congestion control algorithm of standard TCP when the window size is less than $W_{low}(=38)$. The paper shows this approach does not ensure good TCP compatibility, and proposes new schemes to achieve better TCP compatibility.
