DCF-Raman amplification module with an automatic gain control scheme

(in English) Dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) modules using Raman amplification need an automatic gain control (AGC) scheme. The number of channels input into a DCF module is suddenly changed in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. Especially in such systems, high-speed is required for the AGC scheme in order to adapt suddenly change. In this Letter, we propose a high-speed AGC scheme for DCF-Raman amplifiers. It takes tens of microseconds so that signals transmit DCF in the DCF-Raman amplifiers. To realize a high-speed AGC scheme, it is necessary to match timings in which output power and input power are monitored. We developed a high-speed digital AGC circuit with CPU to solve the problem, and realize a high-speed AGC scheme with adjusting monitoring timings on software.
