Selective Stimulation System of Common Fibuluar Nerve
Masashi Inoue, Junichi Ushiba, Yutaka Tomita (Keio Univ)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This research deals with selective nerve stimulation via surface electrodes, with which researchers have been confronted when they use electromyography. More and more people have been studying the topic in a mathematical way and targeting animals such as cats. By comparison, the object of this research is human, and the purpose is to develop the selective nerve stimulation system of two branches of common fibular nerve. The proposed method utilizes matrix-liked stimulation electrodes for stimulating nerves by every possible combination in order to search the suitable site of the stimulation. The engineering approach using by a personal computer and electric circuits succeeded to automate the conventional process of moving electrodes by hand.
