Low-drive-power AOTFs

(in English) Acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTFs) using selective TE/TM mode conversion are suitable for dynamic optical add/drop multiplexers (DOADMs) in wavelength division multiplexers (WDM) systems because of their high switching speed and broad tunability. We have previously demonstrated AOTFs for 100-GHz WDM. In this study, we developed new SAW guide structures to reduce the driving-power of AOTFs. To design the divided SAW guide, we used a slab-guide model simulation. As a result, the driving power of this AOTF is 30% less than that of the conventional AOTF, and this value agrees well with the simulation results.
