Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper proposes a new automated home network diagnosis as a
concept and practical tool. We show three technical requirements for
home network diagnosis. Lack of systems or tools satisfying all
requirements together is our motivation. The concept that
configuration settings once determined through proper configuration
tasks guarantee correct behavior of devices and applications is the
underlying design principle. The proposed diagnosis tool is realized
($1$) by integration with the home network autoconfiguration system of
our previous research developments and ($2$) as a daemon process on a
home user PC. The intended diagnosis is achieved by matching the
current configuration settings to those of the last proper settings
that the diagnosis tool takes over from the autoconfiguration
system. We implemented a prototype diagnosis tool integrated with the
autoconfiguration system. The memory footprint of $10,600$Kbyte and
management traffic required for diagnosis of $215.6$bps are small. The
deployment of the previous version of the diagnosis tool for five
months showed that the ratio of the number of technical calls that
related to problems raised after initial configuration to the number
of all subscribers per month decreased from $0.60$\% to $0.38$\%.
