Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Economical PON system, Giga-bit Ethernet PON (GE-PON) standardized by IEEE, has the capability of wide-band communication and is under deployment in Japanese market.
On the other hand, evolution of PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Networks) /ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) to NGN (Next Generation Network) is under discussion. One of the important issues is convergence with the legacy telephone network, based on TDM (Time division Multiplexing) technologies, which has the capability of assured transfer. ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector) is standardizing G-PON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Networks: G.984 series) access system, which has both the capabilities of wide-band transfer and multi-service convergence.
In this paper, we studied about the convergence of legacy network (assured transfer) and data network (best effort transfer) on ITU-T G-PON access systems. Proposed method realizes the assured transfer of legacy TDM traffic effectively and sustains high QoS (Quality of Service) level for TDM traffic.
