Multicast Content Delivery with Multiple Speeds Based on Users’ Utility
Takehiro Kajita, Kyoko Yamori, Yoshiaki Tanaka (Waseda Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Multicast technology is expected to become widely used, since its link sharing capability makes it well suited to large size content delivery services. In multicast content delivery services, the speed of content delivery is adjusted to the slowest user’s speed in the multicast tree. Therefore, it is effective to separate slow users from fast users according to users’ available rate. This paper compares the users’ utility of the delivery with multiple speeds and that of the delivery with blocking slow link users. It is shown that the delivery with multiple speeds is more effective when the users are not so sensitive to the waiting time to get the content.
