Chaos and fractals analyses to the environmental loads dependence of fish movements

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It is well known that the physiological activity does complex behavior, and chaos and fractals analyses are considerably effective to understand the complexity. Then, in this report, we aim to clarify the change by the influence of the environmental loads brings to the chaos and fractals characteristics. First, we accomplished observation with an indoor water tank, and the movement loci of a fish as a biological signal were extracted from a video. In addition, environmental loads are added to the water of the indoor water tank, and we analyzed the influence of the environmental loads on these loci from a viewpoint of chaos and fractals. We verify the existence of the chaos characteristic in the movement loci of a fish by means of Lyapunov Analysis. Furthermore, we tried to quantify the complexity of these movement loci by means of the Fractals Dimension analyses methods, such as the Correlation Dimension and the Capacity Dimensional Analyses Method in three-dimension space. Consequently, the dependence on the environmental loads was not found in a simple movement speed change in the fish. However it could be found from the chaos and fractals analysis.
