Arbitrary waveform pulse generation using an arrayed-waveguide grating and an optical frequency comb

(in English) Arbitrary waveform, Gaussian, rectangular and double-Gaussian, optical pulse trains are stably generated by spectral shaping of the optical frequency comb. The optical frequency comb generator is composed of the phase and intensity modulators. A 10-GHz resolution reflection type arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) with integrated phase and amplitude modulators is used for spectral shaping. The Gaussian pulse train generation can be demonstrated for the center wavelength of 1527 nm to 1565 nm and the repetition rate of 9.7 GHz to 10.3 GHz, respectively.
