A Study on Effective Aperture of Taper Slot Antenna

(in English) A tapered slot antenna offers many benefits such as its low profile, low weight, easy fabrication, suitability for conformal installation, and compatibility with microwave integrated circuits. On the other hand, the fundamental operation of the tapered slot antenna is not yet fully understood, and the designs of these antennas have so far primarily been based on the empirical results due to a lack of established design criteria.
In this report, in order to clarify the effects of varying the size of a dielectric print circuit board, the preliminary relationship between the flare angle and the gain of a linearly tapered slot antenna is shown. Furthermore, an effective aperture for the tapered slot antenna is defined using the theoretical value of the aperture efficiency of a pyramidal horn antenna.
