Channel Capacity Measurement in Indoor Environment Using Compact 3-Port MIMO Antenna for User Terminal

(in English) Recently, studies on Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems, which provide the data transmission rate enhancement without the expansion of the frequency band, are pursued. However the mutual coupling and spatial correlation among the antennas cause the serious deterioration of the data transmission rate in case of the antennas being closely placed in the small terminal.
In this report, a three-port MIMO antenna, which achieves low mutual coupling and low spatial correlation among the ports by utilizing orthogonal polarizations and directivities, is proposed and its data transmission performance in the indoor environment is described.
The measured results of the fabricated antenna show that the proposed configuration with the modified inverted F antenna employing H shaped conducting plate achieves a good cross-polar radiation pattern, which is lower than that with the conventional inverted F antenna by 8 dB. It is also shown that the proposed antenna can suppress the mutual coupling to -11.5 dB.
The indoor transmission measurement shows that the proposed antenna can enhance the channel capacity up to 12 \%. These results indicate that our antenna can provide a small MIMO antenna configuration with an affordable channel capacity.
