Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) For testing biological effects of radio waves from base stations of cellular phones, an experiment with free constraint rats is being planned. In this paper, based on a near-field in-vivo exposure setup, which was developed in the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, we investigated a 2.14-GHz far-field exposure method from the standpoint of dosimetry design. The antenna structure for this kind of exposure was first determined, and then the specific absorption rates (SARs) were calculated using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method in conjunction with an anatomical rat model. .We also examined uncertainty of the whole-body average SARs due to the rat movement inside the exposure box and the effect of metal ceiling on the antenna input power as well. As a result, we found that the relative electric field intensity in exposure space more than 80% reached 0.75±15% for two crossed 3/2 wave-length dipole antennas with a phase difference of 90 degrees, and consequently that the whole body average SAR varied within 40% for 39 assumed patterns of rat locations due to their movement. In addition, the employment of metal ceiling may reduce the input power of antennas more than 50% compared to the case without a metal ceiling.
