Automatic Extraction of Brain Surface from FDG-PET Images Using Morphological Filter

(in English) We propose the automatic extraction of brain surface from FDG-PET images using morphological filters. FDG-PET images represent a neuronal functionality through imaging glucose metabolism, and it is expected to utilized for dementia diagnosis. However, other regions than the brain are included in PET images, and the automatic removal is requested as the preprocessing to diagnostic imaging. First, the proposed algorithm extracts brain surfaces using a thresholding, labeling, and morphological filters. The performance was evaluated by using a digital phantom. As a result, extract surfaces agreed with the true contours.
