Visualization of the transition of three-dimensional structure by using Contour Nest

(in English) It is a valuable procedure for motion analysis of heart or the analysis of the transition of diseases to analyze temporal series of three-dimensional (3D) medical images. Although a temporal series of 3D images can describe transformations of internal organs, they cannot be viewed from outside. It is necessary for the visualization of transformation of internal organs to segment the organs of interest, and the results are influenced by the procedures or errors of segmentation.
Our purpose here is to establish a procedure to visualize the structural changes in human bodies. We have proposed Contour Nest (CN) as a 2D display procedure to visualize the relationship among isosurfaces in 3D images without segmentation. In this report, we describe a procedure to visualize 3D structural changes using temporal series of CNs.
