Experimental verification of Optical Switching by Light Intensity Control in Cascaded Coupled Waveguides

(in English) We proposed a novel lightwave switching method employing light intensity control in cascaded coupled waveguides in our research. The purpose of this report is to verify the lightwave switching by use of some ways such as coupled-mode theory, numerical analysis using beam-propagation method, and an experiment using space-propagating lightwave and fundamental optical devices that are beam splitters, optical attenuators, and so on. By the coupled-mode analysis, lightwave switching operation is described by an equation with parameters of attenuation rate of attenuators that are components of the proposed switch. The operation is also made clear by the numerical simulation result. Moreover, feasibility of the lightwave switching is indicated by the experimental result from which the maximum value of crosstalk is obtained about 10 dB.
