A Study on MMSE Extended QRM-MLD Algorithm for Single-user/Multi-user MIMO Transmission Systems

(in English) MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) transmission technologies which can increase the system capacity within the same frequency bandwidth offer ultra high-speed data transmission with multiple antennas at both transmitter and receiver in wireless communications systems. Maximum Likelihood Detection (MLD) is well known as an optimal algorithm for signal detection in MIMO transmission. Unfortunately, MLD has a large issue of the high computational complexity. Then, QRM-MLD algorithm is proposed in order to reduce the complexity for MLD algorithm. In this paper, we study an extended QRM-MLD algorithm, which uses QR decomposition to orthogonalize MIMO channel matrix based on MMSE criteria instead of ordinary Zero-Forcing criteria. We evaluate the performance improvement of the extended QRM-MLD algorithm. We also study the extended QRM-MLD algorithm in the downlink of multi-user MIMO transmission.
