For practical applications of multi-gigabit wireless LAN in millimeter wave band, we propose a switched-beam sector slot-array antenna for both an access point fixed on the ceiling and an user terminal. It forms a secant-beam pattern in vertical plane to satisfy the system requirement on antenna gain, and has a beam-switching mechanism in horizontal plane for covering the whole room. We analyzed the one-sector extracted from the switched-beam sector antenna. A secant-beam pattern with its maximum gain of 11.6 dBi at a tilt angle from -65 to -60 degree was obtained. It satisfied the system requirement. The system requirement for return loss characteristics was also satisfied. |
