Indoor Positioning via TDOA measurements Using Particle Filter

(in English) For various kinds of applications in sensor network, the positional information of each sensor node is essential. In order to know the exact position of each node, the location estimation method using TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) information is often considered. Some conventional linear search algorithms used for TDOA-based estimation, however, are easily degraded due to serious time delay of received signal caused by multipath effect. In this paper, some novel techniques which apply particle filter for location estimation are proposed. In the proposed method, finite particles imitate the state of unknown sensor node to estimate its location even in serious environment including multipath and shadowing. Some computer simulations and mathematical analyses show the proposed technique can achieve robust and precise estimation compared with conventional systems.
