IP Packet Loss Compensation Scheme with Bicast and Forwarding for Handover in Mobile Communication

This paper proposes an IP packet loss compensation scheme with bicast and forwarding for hard handover (HO) between base stations (BSs). The proposed scheme could reduce the control delay for HO since it previously transfers IP packet from an access router to both an old BS and a new BS before HO is performed (cell is changed). Furthermore, the proposed scheme could realize loss less of IP packet by forwarding the IP packet only when IP packet transferred before starting bicast is buffered in the old BS for HO request. From our computer simulation results, the proposed scheme could reduce the HO control delay at 95 (98) % by approximately 2 (4.2) sec and 150 (200) msec compared with the only bicast scheme and the only forwarding scheme respectively when the number of users is 80 and the maximum Doppler frequency is 5.55 Hz. Therefore, we clarified that the proposed scheme is effective as an IP packet loss compensation scheme for hard handover. |
