An extension of sampling theorem as an approximation technique
Akira Hirabayashi (Yamaguchi Univ.), Michael Unser (EPFL)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Sampling theorems have been studied so far from two different points of view: perfect reconstruction and approximation. Compared to the former which is mathematical, the latter is more important in the engineering field. The most familiar criterion to discuss the approximation problem is the minimum squared error, which is achievable under a certain condition. If it does not hold, we need a relaxed criterion. One of such criteria is consistency, which means that the reconstructed signal yields the same measurements as the original one. The conventional consistent reconstruction theorems are for over-sampled cases. Hence, in this paper, we propose consistent reconstruction formulas for under-sampled cases.
