A New Dissimilarity among Clusters in Clustering Tasks
Kazunori Iwata, Akira Hayashi (Hiroshima City Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In a probabilistic clustering task, we introduce a novel dissimilarity
to properly measure a dissimilarity among multiple clusters, such that
each cluster is characterized by a probability distribution.
It is called the redundancy-based dissimilarity among probability
distributions.
From aspects of both source coding and of testing statistical
hypothesis, we elucidate several theoretical backgrounds that the
redundancy-based dissimilarity among probability distributions is a
natural and reasonable measure for dissimilarity among clusters.
Finally we show several related theorems which are significant in the
clustering task, such as an asymptotic coincidence between the
redundancy-based dissimilarity among samples and that among
probability distributions.
