A recent trend in routing research is the use of overlay routing to improve end-to-end QoS without changing the network level architecture.
The key of this technology is to find an alternative route that can avoid congested routes, using an overlay network.
So far, based on the finding that a small number of overlay nodes can offer optimal alternative routes to a large number of end-to-end pairs
through actual measurement data analysis, we have proposed an overlay routing algorithm that works well under the constraint that the number of alternative route candidates is limited.
In this paper, we modify our algorithm so that it can also cope with the changes in optimal nodes due to the changes in traffic patterns at the IP layer and show its effectiveness under various traffic patterns through simulation. We also investigate whether our method can cope with the case where overlay routing causes new congestion at the IP layer. |
