Double high mesa quasi hollow waveguide cell for compact breath-sensing system via infrared spectroscopy

(in English) For the development of compact health-checkup devices, we have researched on breath-sensing system by using infrared absorption spectroscopy. Novel double high-mesa quasi hollow waveguide cell has been proposed for this purpose. In this article, we have confirmed that it is possible to achieve waveguide curvature radius of 10μm with low radiation loss and thus, it leads to miniaturize waveguide circuit size fully. Utilizing the same layer structure, we have calculated the gas-phase light distribution ratio (Γair) by using BPM (Beam Propagation Method). As the result, we obtained Γair=0.28. Moreover, for forming incident light field which leads to field matching with the gas-phase distribution of the double high mesa waveguide, we have proposed new 1×2MMI coupler which is incorporated with the abrupt change in lateral waveguide geometry resulting in the estimated excess loss of below 1dB.
