Burst Grooming Scheme on $\lambda$-Planes in Optically Burst Switched WDM Networks

(in English) In recent years, Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is emerging as a promising solution for high-speed transfer of bursty traffic over WDM optical networks. In OBS networks, the burst loss probability tends to be
prohibitively large because there is no buffer at intermediate core nodes. To improve the burst loss performance, we have already proposed contention-free $\lambda$-planes, which consist of dedicated wavelengths assigned to each ingress node and load-balanced spanning trees. In this paper, we propose a burst grooming scheme to utilize the unused bandwidth of $\lambeda$-planes effectively. In the proposed scheme, $\lambda$-planes are combined with the offset time mechanism and bursts generated from an ingress node are transmitted on dedicated wavelengths assigned to other ingress nodes without blocking their burst transmissions. We show that the proposed scheme can enhance the wavelength utilization and improve the burst loss performance of $\lambda$-planes.
