An Introduction of Pushback Mechanism into Path Identification Methods for DDoS Defence

(in English) Pi (Path Identification) method is proposed as a mechanism for defending DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. In this method, each router marks its identification in packets to roughly show the route on which the packets have passed. By counting the arrival rate based on the identification, this method can identify attacker's packets at high filtration accuracy. The marking and filtering loads are rather lower, however, there are room for improving the filtering accuracy. This paper proposes an improved method by introducing Pushback mechanism, which defends DDoS attacks in cooperation with the upstream router, into Pi method. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, network simulations are executed.
