Recently, information access control must be implemented on IT system in universities. For instance, IT systems dealing with confidential information such as students’ and salary records must perform access control using authentication technologies such as PKI. If we implement authentication on a system-by-system basis, it will degrade information confidentiality, user convenience and system’s maintenance ability. Therefore, a common authentication system is very much important in universities’ IT system.
In order to design the common authentication system, we must care about existing business procedures and existing IT systems in universities. In this paper, we introduce Campus-wide authentication and authorization system in Tokyo Institute of Technology. Particularly, we focus on the cooperation with existing business procedures and existing IT systems. We also provide issues and solutions that come up after starting our system operation. |
