Extracting Sounds in a Target Area Surrounded by Ambient Noise Sources

(in English) A method for extracting sound signal from a particular area which is surrounded by multiple ambient noise sources is proposed. The method performs several fixed beamformings on a pair of small microphone arrays separated from each other to estimate the signal and noise power spectra. The signal extraction is realized by a nonlinear filter performed in the frequency domain, which is derived from the estimated power spectra.
From experiments in a room with reverberation, the method succeeds in suppressing the ambient noise to more than 10dB, which is a much better effect than that of the conventional fixed beamforming method using a large-aperture microphone array. Furthermore, we confirmed that the method robustly works against moving noise sources.
