The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) launched by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has big potential to take an active role in disaster monitoring, including a volcano monitoring. The satellite remote sensing technique has advantage to observe the remote and dangerous area where there is no other geophysical data. Kamchatka Peninsula is located in remote location and has a lot of active volcanoes. The data from Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) equipped to ALOS are able to apply to an observation the precise surface deformation by use of differential interferometric SAR (DInSAR) technique. The results of InSAR measurements applied to Kamchatka region show several interferograms, including signals like a crustal deformation and noises like artifacts from water vapor ore orbital error. It is quite difficult to distinguish between signals and noses in InSAR data, therefore a comparison and verification of InSAR data using other geophysical data are required. |
