We have investigated on an electrical and optical design of the low molecular type ultra-violet light emitting organic devices (UV-OLEDs) and their application to the organic white light source by employing lateral color conversion technique. The device consists of TAZ based light emitting layer and wide-gap carrier transporting layers such as BCP, B-phen and Bu-PBD. Optimized device showed a sharp UV-emission having a peak at 380nm with FWHM of 42nm and its threshold voltage for the emission is only 3.5V. The external quantum efficiency of the optimized device was estimated to be 3.5%, which approximately corresponded to 4.1% in the device without re-absorption of UV light in the other layers. Furthermore, we successfully observed pure white emission with the color coordinate of (0.33, 0.31) by the combination of UV-OLED and stacked three primary color conversion films. |
