Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A method of tracking a person in an image by a omnidirectional sensor, which is based on the polar coordinate system, is investigated. In order to extract person’s regions from the image, background subtraction using HSV value, which is not so influenced by shadow, is first applied. Next, each person’s region is described by radius and direction information on polar coordinate system. Then, movement prediction with the previous frame information is performed. Consequently, when no occlusion is occurred, for standard image (640x480) persons existing within the distance of 8 m from a camera, and for high-resolution image (1280x960) persons within the distance of 20 m, can be traced, respectively.
