Bilevel halftones are used for printing color digital images. The interpolation of color pixel values prior to digital halftoning is discussed and a new color interpolation scheme is presented by a directional copy of color values in the hue vector space. As the number of data increases due to the interpolation, contouring artifacts are likely to appear because similar values increase in the close vicinity over uniform areas. Error diffusion is incorporated with the clustered-dot ordered dithering to prevent from undesirable contouring. Experimental results demonstrate that sharp interpolation is obtained to produce no visible contouring artifacts. |
