A Multi-Communication Range Method for Position Estimations of Passive RFID Tags

(in English) Recently, the RFID is paid to attention as an identification source. The user identifies the object in which the RFID tag is installed by the unique ID of the RFID tag, and gets appropriate information of the object. One of the examples of applying the RFID technology is the position estimation of RFID tags. It can be very useful to acquire the location information of the RFID tag, because it can be applied to navigation systems and positional detection systems by robot etc. In this paper, we propose a position estimation method of the RFID tags by using a probabilistic approach with two or more communication ranges on the assumption that the mobile objects (person and robot) with the RFID readers estimate the positions of the RFID tags. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method by performance evaluations.
