TCP Proxy Mechanism using TCP-STAR for High-speed Satellite Link

(in English) The Internet using a high speed satellite link has received considerable attention as the broadband Internet has spread.
However, standard TCP implementation performs poorly in satellite links because of long propagation delay and high bit error rate. In previous researches, a technique has been proposed for improving TCP performance by dividing the TCP connection in the long propagation delay environment by PEP (Performance Enhancing Proxy) . PEP returns acknowledgment packets to the sender substitute for the destination host. However, the previous technique tends to produce redundant packets. In this paper, we propose a new TCP proxy mechanism that divides terrestrial link from satellite link without modification of the end terminals. In the proposal method, we use the TCP-STAR as the suitable transport protocol for the satellite link.
Our simulation results show that proposed mechanism improves satellite channel utilization, and it can decrease redundant packets.
