Study of the influence of communication traffic on timing synchronization processes in ad hoc networks

(in English) In mobile ad hoc networks, multiple cells (IBSS) are often join or disjoined due to nodes mobility. In IEEE 802.11 framework, this joining process simultaneously proceeds with timing synchronization process. Here we consider and clarify this joining timing synchronization process under realistic environments where both data packets transmissions and the power-save mode in IEEE 802.11 are assumed. From systematic simulations and analysis, the following insights are obtained;
(i) The presence of data packets transmissions enhances the synchronization process under certain conditions.
(ii) In contrast, too much data traffic eventually blocks the synchronization process. From the above results, a reasonable explanation for the worst case synchronization process is obtained for a realistic network environment.
