We have proposed the indoor event detection system with eigenvector spanning signal subspace for office or home security. The proposed system monitors a whole room with only a pair of transmitter and receiver. The receiver uses an antenna array. By using array signal processing, we get not received signal strength (RSS) that is susceptible to noise but eigenvector spanning signal subspace that is inherent to its environment. When an event (e.g. a person intrudes into a house) occurs, the propagation environment changes, and thus the eigenvector changes. To detect an event, we use this change. If a pair of transmitter and receiver is in line of sight (LOS), the direct-path signal is dominant over the eigenvector spanning signal subspace. However, the direct-path signal captures only a part of changes of the propagation environment. To capture the changes of the propagation environment, it is important to obtain components other than the direct-path signal. This report proposes event detection system based on space-time signal processing for los environments. Specifically, we estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) of the direct-path signal. Based on the DOA information, we remove the direct-path-signal component over the eigenvector spanning signal subspace. We can detect an event with the eigenvector removing the direct-path-signal component. In this report, experimental results reveal that if the proposed system is used in LOS environment, it is easier than the conventional system to identify whether an event occurs or not. |
