Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol, access points (APs) are given the same authority as wireless terminals in terms of acquiring the wireless link, even if they aggregate several downlink flows. This feature leads to a serious throughput degradation of downlink flows comparing to the uplink flows. In this paper, we propose a window control mechanism for IEEE 802.11e EDCA-based WLANs, in order to improve the throughput of low-priority downlink flows. The proposed scheme first calculates the contention window size of the low-priority access category at APs according to the number of downlink flows. It then calculates contention window sizes of high-priority access categories in order to support QoS guarantees for high-priority traffic such as voice and video. We evaluate the proposed scheme with simulation experiments.
