Effect of agency on Perceived Timing of Audiovisual stimuli
Tomomitsu Herai (Tokyo Tech), Ken Mogi (Sony CSL) NC2008-9
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The integration of the sensory and motor information is a key component of our daily life. Our mental experience affects this sensorimotor integration. For example, intention changes our perceived timing of the sensory effect of the movement. In addition, the brain has to integrate auditory and visual information precisely to form appropriate mental world about the environment. To perceive the external physical event as precise as possible, temporal order of sensory information is useful. We investigate the effect of the sense of agency toward to the audiovisual stimulus using temporal order judgment(TOJ). Subject’s showed that the enhanced sensitivity to the timing of stimulus when they generated the stimuli . It suggests that the brain has a flexible mechanism of processing bimodal information according to the subject’s sense of agency.
