Improvement of Wavelength Conversion Efficiency by SBS-Suppressed Highly Nonlinear Fiber

(in English) High pump power is desirable to improve efficiency of FWM wavelength conversion. But pump power is limited by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). A frequency of Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) is shifted by changing the concentration of GeO2 in the core. BGSs were dispersed by connecting three HNLFs with different GeO2 concentration and Brillouin gain suppression was realized. 5.7dB SBS suppression was demonstrated by these three HNLFs. We carried out FWM wavelength conversion experiment to verify the effect of SBS suppression. As the result of precisely controlled dispersion characteristics of three HNLFs, we found no degradation in a conversion bandwidth in this experiment. Conversion
efficiency was improved by 5.7dB comparing to conventional HNLFs by SBS suppression.
