Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors have been developed a technique for calibrating electric-field probes for the measurement of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of mobile communication devices by using the Friis transmission formula in the tissue equivalent liquid. In our method, reference antennas whose gain is calibrated in the liquid are used. However, due to significant decay of the electromagnetic wave in the liquid, it is difficult to measure the power transmission between the two antennas in the far-field region, where the conventional Friis transmission formula can be used. The authors extended the formula to apply it in the near-field region. In our paper, we realize the measurement in the far-field region by inserting a power amplifier in our conventional measurement system with a vector network analyzer and enhance the dynamic range of our system. Furthermore, we estimate the gain of the reference antenna using the data measured in the near-field and far-field regions and comfirm the validity of our extended Friis transmission formula.
