Efficient Signal Detection for Block Spreading CDMA Signals Based on the Expectation Maximization Algorithm
Shuhei Sugiyama, Kohei Otake (Hosei Univ.) RCS2008-143
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Block-Spread CDMA (BS/CDMA) system has been thought as an effective communication system because of enabling MUI-free transmission even under the multi-path environments. Although the system is MUI-free, there occurs interference on each data-block, that is, inter-symbol interference (ISI), and the MMSE detector to suppress it, is reported. In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme in introducing the expectation maximization algorithm (EMA) to the BS/CDMA signal detection, aimed to outperform the MMSE detector. Specifically, whereas the observed received data is subjected to the ISI in nature, we specify the complete data in the EMA to be obtained by decomposing it into each data symbol components, which results in the independent symbol update processing in the M-step and thus leads to low computational complexity. The computer simulation results show that the proposed detector significantly outperforms the conventional MMSE detector in terms of BER performance.
