A Rendering Method for a Wide Field-of-view Head Mounted Projective Display using Hyperbolic Half-silvered Mirrors

(in English) Our HMPD design, Hyperbolic HMPD or HHMPD, theoretically achieves more than 180 degrees of horizontal FOV by
utilizing a half-silvered hyperbolic curved mirror.
The HHMPD is superior to conventional HMDs in terms of immersion and situation awareness.
On the other hand, observed image quality has a number of undesirable problems derived from its structure and optical system.
In this paper, a set of a rendering methods to improve the image quality are proposed.
The image distortion correction algorithm is a standard multi-pass rendering technique similar to cube mapping.
A hardware accelerated fast rendering algorithm for
image distortion correction has been implemented and it has been confirmed that the projected image quality and rendering speed are sufficient.
Spatial relationships between parameters for the uneven brightness correction algorithm are examined and necessary equations are derived.
