Evaluation of Clustering method for Hierarchical Sensor Networks in case of IEEE802.11b communication

(in English) In sensor networks, a huge number of battery-driven sensing nodes are scattered across the sensing area, so that the power saving of these nodes in terms of both collecting and forwarding data may become very important. A hierarchical sensor networks, in which the sensing area is divided into many small clusters, the cluster-head node gathers/compresses data from other nodes located in its own cluster and transmit the sink node collectively, can reduce energy consumption of the whole network. However, it has not been shown what kind of protocols in datalink layer of each sensor is effective and how the sensor network is clustered in detail. In this paper, we propose the clustering method for hierarchical sensor networks assuming IEEE802.11b as wireless communication system of sensors and we provide the clustering parameter that can reduce the energy consumption the most.
