Study on Multipath Division SC/MMSE Turbo Equalization for Amplify-and-Forward Relaying

(in English) This report proposes amplify-and-forward (AF) relay stations in cellular systems and multipath division turbo equalization (MD-TE) at mobile terminals. An AF relay station retransmits signals from a base station after amplifying. Therefore, in addition to expanding cell coverage, improvement of signal to noise ratio (SNR) is expected because mobile terminals can utilize signals both from a base station and via relay stations for the receiving process. However, AF relay processing has an amount of delay time, which results in large delayed waves at mobile terminals. When delay time of such waves exceeds the guard interval (GI) length, OFDM signal transmissions suffer from severe degradation because inter symbol interference (ISI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) occur. MD-TE mitigates ISI and ICI by dividing received signal into several blocks whose delay time do not exceed the GI length and carries out MMSE filtering to the blocks. Computer simulations demonstrate that AF relaying and MD-TE can improve SNR, mitigate ISI and ICI, and achieve excellent throughput performance.
