Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) NHK is studying “Super Hi-Vision/ultra high definition TV” as next generation broadcasting, aiming at the ultimate broadcasting system with a heightened sensation of reality. The 21-GHz band satellite broadcasting system is under development as a promising transmission channel to deliver Super Hi-Vision signals to the home, because Super Hi-Vision signal requires a wide band transmission line. NHK have developed a prototype of wideband (300MHz bandwidth) modulator and demodulator with LDPC FEC that have the capability to transmit/receive several compressed Super Hi-Vision programs. We carried out a multichannel Super Hi-Vision transmission experiment through the Ka band satellite “KIZUNA (WINDS)” developed by JAXA and NICT using the modem to investigate the basic property of wideband transmission in Ka-band for the Super Hi-Vision satellite broadcasting in the 21GHz band in future.
