We demonstrate the fabrication method and characteristics of the optical combiner spliced with an air-hole type multimode fiber. The air-hole type multimode fiber has been attracted due to both high NA and high reliability under the delivery of high power laser, compared to a polymer type fiber. However, it is difficult to splice an air-hole type multimode fiber to a conventional optical combiner due to the fragile nature of the air-hole structure. The optical combiner with the air-hole type multimode fiber is successfully fabricated by removing the outer clad of air hole from the air-hole type multimode fiber and shows the good reliability. |
