A theoretical study on design of radar absorbent material for wedge shape

(in English) In the general design of Radar Absorbent Material (RAM), its reflection coefficient is calculated with the transmission line theory applied to an infinite plate, and then its permittivity, permeability, and thickness are determined.
However, for other objects besides a plate, it is impossible to calculate their reflection coefficient using the transmission line theory. In this report, we calculate the electric fields scattered by the edge coated with the surface impedance and derive the conditions of permittivity to obtain the desired reflection coefficient with the relation between the edge angle and surface impedance. Consequently, we find the fact that the conditions of RAM’s permittivity for a plate and a wedge shape are different from each other and it is necessary to decrease imaginary part of the permittivity for TE wave and increase real part and imaginary part of the permittivity for TM wave.
